For the launch of Below, Netflix’s creature series set off the coast of Newfoundland, the monster had to surface where everyone would see it. From the deck of a ferry in New York Harbor, a red patrol boat passes Liberty Island. A tentacle breaks the surface, wraps the hull, flips it and takes it under, propellers still spinning in the air.
Posted on Netflix’s main Instagram account on 12 October 2026, four days after the premiere: 56.8 million views in eight days. The boat, the tentacles and every wave and splash around them are 3D: animation first, then water, foam and spray simulations, frame by frame.
