Lyon banned outdoor digital ads. A court lifted the ban in 2025.
In 2023, the Métropole de Lyon banned outdoor digital advertising across its 59 communes. In June 2025, the administrative court annulled that ban, but strict zone rules still apply. Below: where 3D works today, who sells the screens, the rules in detail and the dates that matter.
The Lyon out-of-home market
No Lyon-only figures are published, so the reference is national. French out-of-home revenue fell 5.3% to €1,325 million in 2025, with digital at €301 million: down 2.3% on 2024, but up 12.4% on 2023. Shopping centres were the only growing segment, up 7.5% to €144 million (Kantar Media, France Pub and IREP, BUMP 2025).
In Lyon, the rules shape the market. The Métropole adopted its first metropolitan advertising regulation (RLP) on 26 June 2023, applying from early July 2023 across its 59 communes (Métropole de Lyon). It banned outdoor digital advertising. On 3 June 2025, the Lyon administrative court annulled that ban, and the Métropole’s vice-president said an appeal was being studied (Lyon Capitale).
Where 3D works in Lyon
We found no giant LED corner and no named landmark screen with published specs in Lyon. The digital networks on record are underground and in the train stations. 3D works there as depth on standard screens.

For a large curved screen, a national plan can pair the Lyon networks with Paris, where the New Digital Dream at Westfield Les 4 Temps is marketed for 3D content.
Who sells the space
- Cityz Media: the Lyon metro, with Toulouse and Rennes (more than 1,500 faces and about 150 digital screens across the three), and bus advertising in Lyon (Cityz Media).
- Mediatransports (Mediagare): SNCF stations across France, close to 600 of them, with a 100% digital offer in stations, Lyon’s main stations included (Mediatransports).
- JCDecaux: the street furniture pioneer; Lyon was the first city to adopt its advertising-funded bus shelter, in 1964 (JCDecaux).
Rules to know before you brief
- The digital ban is annulled: the RLP article banning digital advertising was annulled by the Lyon administrative court (judgment no. 2311196, 3 June 2025), so the blanket ban on outdoor digital screens no longer applies. Further articles, such as the ban on ads on construction tarps, were annulled by judgments of 9 July 2026 (Métropole de Lyon, RLP).
- The zone rules remain: luminous ads must be off from 11 pm to 6 am, except transport street furniture during service hours. Luminous ads are banned on rooftops and at exceptional dimensions, banned outright in zones 3 and 4, and banned on street furniture in zone 5 (Métropole de Lyon, RLP).
- Who decides: permit applications for signs and advertising structures are filed with the town hall, while the Métropole has enforced the RLP since 1 January 2024 (Métropole de Lyon).
- National rule: across France, luminous advertising, digital included, must be off from 1 am to 6 am; airports and transport street furniture are exempt during operating hours only with static images (AIDA, INERIS). Lyon’s 11 pm limit is stricter.
When to launch in Lyon
- 01
Fête des Lumières, four evenings in early December: Lyon’s biggest annual event, with the whole city turned into an open-air light show; 5 to 8 December in 2026 (Fête des Lumières).
- 02
Nuits sonores, in May: a major electronic music festival with a young audience; the 2027 edition runs from 5 to 9 May (Nuits sonores).
- 03
Biennale d’art contemporain, every two years in autumn: the 18th edition runs from 19 September to 13 December 2026 (Biennale de Lyon).
A 2D video gets seen. A 3D one gets filmed.
Same screen, same media budget. A flat video plays like every other ad. Anamorphic 3D seems to leave the screen, so people stop, film it and share it.
From your media plan to a moment people film.
You bring the screens and the brand. We bring the idea, the 3D and the delivery, and we keep it simple for you from the first call to the day it goes live.
See your brand break the screen.
Tell us about your next campaign. We come back with a concept built for your screen and your brand: the idea, the twist, and how it plays out. Free, and yours to keep.
No commitment. If you would rather talk it through first, book a call and we look at your plan together.
The messages we get once the screen goes live.

Everything you need to know.
The 2023 metropolitan rules banned outdoor digital advertising, but the Lyon administrative court annulled that ban on 3 June 2025. Zone rules still apply: no luminous ads in zones 3 and 4, none on street furniture in zone 5, none on rooftops, and screens off from 11 pm to 6 am.
None that we could verify. The digital networks on record are in the metro and the train stations, where 3D works as depth on standard screens. For a large curved screen, a national plan can add one in Paris.
Yes. We can handle the media buying with the operators, so the screens are chosen for the creative and the budget stays under control. If you already have a media agency, we deliver the 3D film to their plan.
Early December, for the Fête des Lumières: four evenings when the whole city becomes an open-air light show and crowds fill the centre. In 2026 it runs from 5 to 8 December.
Yes. We create both flat and 3D versions and adapt them to every screen and media owner in your plan, whether that's one flagship billboard or dozens across markets. The technical back-and-forth is our job, not yours.
The creative is a separate line, but it never requires you to buy more media. You're making the impressions you've already paid for work harder: the same screens start generating organic reach on their own.
Ideas and early visuals can use AI. The final 3D is built by our own team, because a real screen with real people in front of it does not forgive approximation.
